The corridors of RVS Academy, Mango, Jamshedpur, resonated with creativity and intellectual fervour as the school proudly hosted the prestigious Albert Barrow Memorial All-India Inter-School Creative Writing Competition 2026 for both Category I and Category II.
Instituted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) in honour of its founder Secretary, the late Mr. Albert Barrow, this esteemed annual competition is one of the Council’s most prestigious literary events. It provides a national platform for young writers to showcase their creativity, originality, critical thinking and command over language while celebrating the power of imagination and expression.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from schools across the region, with students competing in two categories:
Category I: Classes XI & XII
Category II: Classes IX & X
The event was graced by the presence of Chairman Mr. Binda Singh, Principal Mrs. Veesha Mohindra, and Vice-Principal Mrs. Puja Suman, whose encouragement inspired the participants to give their very best.
Maintaining the highest standards of transparency and integrity prescribed by the CISCE, the sealed envelope containing the writing topics was opened simultaneously at 9:30 a.m. The participants were first given 30 minutes to brainstorm and develop their ideas, followed by 60 minutes to compose their original creative pieces.
This year’s thought-provoking themes challenged students to reflect on contemporary issues, emerging global realities and imaginative possibilities for the future. The young writers responded with remarkable maturity, originality and sensitivity, demonstrating that the art of creative writing continues to flourish among today’s generation.
Speaking on the successful conduct of the competition, Principal Mrs. Veesha Mohindra said, “It is a privilege for RVS Academy to serve as the host institution for such a prestigious national competition. The Albert Barrow Memorial Creative Writing Competition goes far beyond academic excellence—it celebrates imagination, independent thought and the ability to transform ideas into compelling narratives. It is heartening to witness young minds expressing themselves with such depth, confidence and creativity.”
In accordance with the strict guidelines of the CISCE, all completed answer scripts were collected, verified and sealed by the designated external invigilator, Mrs. Farha Naaz, before being dispatched to the CISCE Headquarters for centralised evaluation. The Council will announce the national results at a later date, recognising outstanding young writers with merit certificates, medals and other prestigious awards.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, followed by refreshments for all participating students and their accompanying teacher escorts, marking the successful completion of yet another memorable literary event hosted by RVS Academy.
