In the true spirit of Diwali, RVS Academy celebrated Joy of Giving Week with a heartfelt initiative to spread happiness, share love and bring smiles to those who need care, affection and companionship.
As part of this initiative, students collected and contributed essential items for the residents of Nirmal Hridaya, Baradwari; an Old Age Home in Dimna,Mango; and Cheshire Home. The contributions included bedsheets, towels, blankets, biscuits, groceries, Kellogg’s, fruits, hair oil, toothpaste, mixture and other snacks.
Three teams, each comprising 35 students and accompanied by six teachers, visited the three centres to share the joy of giving. The visits turned into beautiful moments of togetherness as students sang songs, danced, interacted with the residents and shared their thoughts and feelings with them.
The experience was deeply emotional for both the residents and the students. The residents were delighted to have the young visitors around them. Their smiles, warmth and gratitude made the students realise how meaningful a little time and attention can be in someone’s life. Many students became emotional and could not hold back their tears.
Beyond the joy of sharing, the visits offered students some invaluable life lessons. They learnt empathy, compassion and the importance of togetherness. Interacting with specially abled individuals made them appreciate the blessings of having a healthy body and mind. Their visit to the old age homes made them realise that elderly people are an integral and precious part of every family. They understood that grandparents need more than material comforts; they need love, attention, respect and quality time from their children and grandchildren. The students were encouraged to value their grandparents and spend more time with them at home.
The initiative was organised just before Diwali so that the residents of all three homes could also experience the warmth and happiness of the festive season. The purpose was not merely to distribute essential items but also to share moments of joy, make meaningful connections and remind everyone that they are loved and remembered.
Chairman Mr Binda Singh appreciated the efforts of the students and teachers and said, “Education is not confined to classrooms and textbooks. It is equally important to develop kindness, compassion and respect for others. Such initiatives help children understand their social responsibilities, value human relationships and become sensitive individuals. The greatest joy lies in bringing a smile to someone’s face.”
Principal Mrs Veesha Mohindra said, “Joy of Giving is a lesson in humanity that children learn through experience. When students spend time with the elderly and specially abled individuals, they begin to understand life from a different perspective. They realise how blessed they are and learn to appreciate what they often take for granted. I particularly want our children to understand that grandparents are an invaluable part of their families and deserve their love, time and attention. The tears in the eyes of many students reflected how deeply this experience touched their hearts. We want our students to grow not only as successful individuals but also as compassionate and responsible human beings.”
Joy of Giving Week was a beautiful reminder that happiness multiplies when shared. Through this initiative, RVS Academy reinforced the message that the true celebration of Diwali lies not merely in exchanging gifts but in spreading love, respecting every individual and making a difference in someone’s life.
